7] HAIKU ~ HAIJIN RUMINATIONS IN VERSE ~ Narayanan Raghunathan
Note ~
I had jotted these things about Haiku and Haijins in simple verse ~ These are surely not all Haiku (!). They are little verses on Haiku and Haijin(s). I surmise there is lot of Hai and perhaps a little ku too in them. Japanese knowing readers please pardon these indulgences.
A KOAN ~
If It Is, It Is~
If It Is Not, It Is Not~
It Is A Haiku.~
HAIKU ~ COGNITION ~
The Haiku hovers
free in thin air eager
to be cognized ~
keep an eye an ear a nose ~
feel wade with a large heart ~
A HUMBLE SUGGESTION
If a Haiku refuses you,
take a day or two, try again ~
she may yield now ~
EDIFICATION ~ HAIKU ART
Twirl tweak trip fill kill
gently confuse cool wishfull
sense glows tremors wild ~
THE HAIJIN
One man's Haiku
is another man's
nonsense ~

HAIJINS LAMENTATION

you don't understand ~
if the Haiku makes no sense
you still don't understand ~
THE CRAZY HAIJIN
When the world sleeps deep
the crazy Haijin wide-awake
hunts sounds and silences
for the missing onji ~
THE EMPTY WAY
When you read a Haiku
either become the invisible Haijin
or else become empty ~
THE ASPIRATION
Allways Haiku aspires ~
you should never get it right ~
then you may get at it a little ~
THE DISCOVERY
Random words collide into
meaning, a Haiku sprouts dear wings~
a soft coolness envelops ~
THE HARSH WAY
I am doing nothing ~
smiling, I pull out a juicy Haiku
catching it by its neck ~
THE GENTLE WAY
The Haiku awaits you
at your doorway ~ invite her in ~
slowly she may unfold ~
A PROVERB
A Haiku a day
keeps the doctor away ~
but the mosquitoes
still have their way ~
THE GREETINGS
Two Haijins meet one day ~
they greet each other well ~
one smiles, the other farts ~

Tweaked tuned to terrible
precision, words flower fire
re-cognize thunder Haiku ~
AH! WHY HAIKU?
The sonnet is not
my ritual cup of warm tea ~
so this sly Haiku ~
HAIKU LIGHT
This tiny Haiku
spreads a little light on
this ancient sky ~
