roll musical notes pained ~
the lotus fades
Brilliant haiku, Rebbaji. It is remarkable for being perhaps one of few rare haiku with the word "pain" occurring here with a gentle inevitability. The haiku gathers from an wide aural perspective (rain) to the specific moment hinted by the photo and evoked in the reader's imagination. In the music of the rain, we attend and feel the vast Amanaha in the universe. In closure it again spreads into the vast, just as the lotus fades. The lotus is evoked as the being eternally centering this cosmic episode. It is this pain of "fading" the projects the strange pathos (wabi) of the musical rain.

"Silent drops of rain" invokes many variant spaces by its poetic and metaphorical presence: we look forward for an elucidation & "roll musical notes pained" completes the hidden abstract pain of the silent musical notes: Perhaps the Haijin is listening to some meditative music which invokes the ageless dukkha! The "lotus fades" shows the lotus as an anima, a divine spirit of Light fading by the divine suffering.
"pained" as a word i have never seen used in a Haiku if my memory does not betray me.
This Haiku illuminates an abstract terrain and can be seen as good poetry even outside the Haiku canons assuming such canons exist. But that only enhances the value of this photo-haiku.
Thank you Rebba
