keeping up with the Jones

Posted by Nanda Kumar Wed, Mar 17th 2010, 03:15 :: English

His car, its
the best in town,
his face outwards,
targets prestige, status

Financed not just
by a bank loan, but
by the deliberate choice
of a cheap, dingy flat

No one has seen
where he lives; he
throws parties only
at the fanciest clubs

There he offers
Scotch and shrimps,
talks about palatial
homes and cruises

with such a facade
the inevitable can but
be postponed: finally
he files for bankruptcy

Funny one, Nanda. Yes it's always the car isn't it?!
