will doll people
alight upon the shore
safe within the light?
will they never know
the ancient shells
unexploded on the beach?
This was composed while passing the lighthouse on Poole Island in the Chesapeake Bay, which looked very small and doll-like from the water. The island was used for target practice by the US Army so is full of unexploded ordinance and forbidden to the publ

It's a surreal symbolic narrative that is skimmed off from a mundane observation. I may have instinctively done this in my poems too at various times. I enjoyed this.
