the Kashmir valley is engulfed by a cold wave...
first snow of the season...on the mountain tops...surrounding this paradise...Kashmir...
today...i warmed up to the thoughts i translated...amidst sounds of gun fire...contemptuous faces and hateful eyes...
the feeling of being an outsider in srinagar...is almost palpable...
i dedicate this haiku to Maria and Alexander...
and thank them both...whole heartedly...for distracting me from the creeping cold...
with:
scars, heat, evening...photo and haiku, the trout, memories, looking for the pond, Mill's lake, catlings, sanctified sweet basil,
rain on the mountain
driftwood
remembering
waiting
flight
half full
eucalypt
ice
river
spring's smile
kiss

the hindustani words in this haiku:
kataar ~ line

chashme ~ springs...another familiar sight in Kashmir
goonjey ~ resound with
seetti ~ whistles
e ~ of
ishq ~ love ~ romanticism
Rebba ji ~ this is wonderful and evocative. I felt I was there, in Kashmir. Also picked up many hindustani words. Thank you for these kind translations and also the elaborate elucidations ~ I'm following these with great interest.
Kashmir is just the place for a second 'honeymoon' shyaam ~
how is the baby doing ?
A BIG GOD BLESS !
my husband ~ karam vir ~ is busy 'contolling the situation'...
WHW will have to tolerate my loud musings...
i sure am snowed in !
another curfew in town today...
brick bats...rubber bullets...plastic pellets...the water hose...tear gas shells...are some pathetic expressions i see and hear of everyday...
i gather...this is the only way to disperse a rioting mob...without taking life...or injuring it...seriously
this page is my refuge !
one eye on the beautiful mountains ~ meadows ~ streams and dales ~
the other on the laptop screen ~
'a third' at play ~ the intutive sixth sense ~ my Lord Shiva's Grace !
The baby is doing very well. He is visiting his maternal grandmother's home with Ambika. He is going to be one of cyclist swimmer or dancer from the looks of it. He cycles his limbs vigorously starting in the morning, slowly working his way to some previously impossible speed each day! Then there are the occasional (perfunctory) naps for repose. He is starting to speak too ~
Kashmir sure sounds wonderful. I hope you both return safely ~ I think we can expect it to remain a dangerous place until certain global changes are effected! My prayers go out to those brave people (like your husband) who are supporting these changes.
I'm happy our site gives you some respite and distraction! It is my experience too. This is a place where time stands still, so to say.
